Week 4 happenings

Our trip to Surfdale Beach for our 'Dive in Day'.  We found so much rubbish!  Our litter mapping exercise was interesting and it was cool to see how to weigh and sort the rubbish.  What will we do about it?

Here is the direct link to Sustainable Coastline's website and gallery.  If anyone knows how to insert a photo album onto blogger - please help us by showing us a quicker way!

Can you sign your name ?

This week is National Sign Language week.  The children have been learning a variety of different signs, such as how to say which bus they're on, greetings and where they live.

Thinking like scientists

This term we are investigating body systems, starting with our largest organ, skin.  The children have written about it, discovered new facts, learnt new ways to record those facts (bullet points) and also made 'edible skin'.

We used mini marshmallows to represent the subcutaneous layer.

Then we added jelly to represent the dermis.  We actually added a variable to our jelly experiment, to see if jelly sets using cold water as well as hot water.

We represented the epidermis with finely sliced apple.

Finally, we added small swizzlers as hairs.
